This week we celebrated Matthew’s 3rd Birthday! It’s been an amazing and enlightening three years to say the least. I knew absolutely nothing about children and parenting prior to Matthew arriving. He was my introduction and crash course into everything about being a mom. And he’s the best teacher you could have asked for – particularly when it comes to learning patience, love, what’s worth disciplining and what’s worth letting go!
It hasn’t always been easy. And I won’t lie and say that I have loved every moment of it. There’s been a lot of stress and a lot of trial and error (both on mine and Matthew’s parts!). But I wouldn’t trade any of that.
Every morning when I wake up and get to spend time with Matthew, I’m so grateful for the path my life has taken. I know that even with all the fantastic things that have happened in my life, he is by far one of the absolute best. And even when I stop and think about all the things I’ve had to wait on and set aside because of having children (such as travel, time to do things for myself, time with friends, extra spending money, etc), I know that those sacrifices are entirely worth the benefits I get from having Matthew in my life. He enriches my life beyond what I could have imagined, and I never knew that I could have so much emotional capacity for love.
Happy 3rd Birthday to my witty, strong-willed, emotional, sweet, and loving child. I can’t wait to see what your future brings! And I’m so glad that I get to share it with you. Remember that I love you always.
