I know in this strange time of home quarantines, school closures, life event cancellations, and people becoming severely ill or dying from COVID-19, something as simple as a first birthday may seem much less important.
But I also strongly believe that we have to keep living, and as much as we can, keep celebrating what we can and however we can.
A positive attitude and a little laughter always brings us through difficult times better than constant worry and anxiety.
And no, I’ve not been serene this entire time (as you’ll find out more about in my blog update next week), but I’m starting to find my groove in our quarantine routine, and I’m feeling pretty good about where we are right now.
So I wanted to bring you all up to date on what my family had a chance to celebrate (in a small way) about a month prior – my daughter’s first birthday!
Extended family wasn’t able to attend as they normally would have, so we used FaceTime to share the cake smash. It was simple and small, but for a mercurial one-year old, I can’t think of a party that would be better.
So happy birthday sweet girl. Your first birthday will always be memorable for this very odd reason, but I’m looking forward to a bigger family celebration in future years to make up for it!

All the best,
Lesley
P.S. I’d love to hear about an event you’ve been able to celebrate during this time – even if it had to be done in an odd way. Just send me a message to share your story. Keeping connections is so important when we can’t actually be together with those we love!
She is absolutely precious! Glad you were able to celebrate her and she definitely looks like she had a ball.
Thank you Ann! She got tired and a bit cranky after her cupcake, but as my friend said – It’s her party and she can cry if she wants to!
