Part of my journey into motherhood has been rediscovering myself – my hobbies, my passions, and what excites me.
It’s so easy to lose ourselves in the identity of being a mom. Our lives can easily start to revolve around our children and their wants, needs and desires. And that’s not a bad thing, but I hear so many stories of mothers who have dedicated 18+ years to taking care of their children, only to have them move out and suddenly find themselves lost with nothing to do and no one to care for. Their whole world for all those years was their children, and they lost themselves along the way.
I started to let that happen to me when Matthew was born, but I soon realized that part of keeping myself happy was going to involve taking time for me – even if the kids desires had to stay on the backburner for 20 minutes or so each day. Maybe that means entertaining them with the “evil” TV for 30 minutes while I took a chance to get showered and ready for the day. Maybe that means letting them run around and make a huge mess in the house while I take the time to cook myself a healthy lunch instead of just grabbing something quick. Maybe that means teaching them to sit quietly with a book for 10 minutes while I do the same. And maybe it means spending some time on things that truly make me happy when I have a few free minutes to myself – instead of spending it catching up on laundry, dishes, and housework.
One thing I discovered that really makes me happy is looking my best! I honestly believe in the phrase “look good, feel good”. Now that I’ve lost a ton of weight, I’m starting to realize just how confident I feel in clothes that fit me well and show off my hard work. I’m also realizing that even though I’ve always thought I had good facial features, I can really make myself shine with a bit of makeup and color!
So I decided to add some eyeshadow palettes to my makeup collection. In this video I’ll be opening up a recent ColourPop shipment and showing you which products I got to try out!
The products you’ll see include: Good as Gold Eyeshadow Palette, Midnight Masquerade Eyeshadow Palette, Misunderstood Eyeshadow Palette, Baby Got Peach Eyeshadow Palette, Strawberry Shake Eyeshadow Palette, Sol Face and Body Highlighter in two colors, and a surprise gift! In the future I’ll be adding some videos showing how I use each product once I’ve had a chance to play around with them. And if you watch the video, you’ll see me fail at remembering the name of a Broadway play I went to with my sister a few years back. I finally remembered the name of the show – it was Wicked, and it wasn’t Disney like I was thinking it was. Instead it was from the perspective of the wicked witch from the Wizard of Oz, but it was still fantastic! Feel free to check out the video if you want to see why I was referencing that.
Thanks so much for watching, and I’d love for you to follow along – please like, subscribe, and share with your friends!
All the best,
Lesley
P.S. Has there been a time in your life when you felt like you were losing your identity? What caused it and what did you do to find yourself again? I’d love to hear from you!
